“If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?”
-Jesus Christ

“Real compassion does not depend on whether the other person is nice to you.”

In his book, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Steven Pinker argues that we are evolving into a less violent culture. Yet for many others, we are bombarded in the media with stories of hate. The Better Angels, will be an anthology of stories about how the better angels among us counteract the active prejudice that we have lived with since the beginning.

The kind of stories I’m looking for:
I want stories about how someone who should have been your enemy helped you, aided you, and possibly even saved your life. Random acts of kindness are fine, but more specifically I am looking for groups who are in or have been in conflict helping each other out. It can be Christians helping Muslims, Muslims helping Christians, Non-Christians helping Christians, straights helping gays, immigrants helping citizens, groups who are stereotyped by the public officials and the public in general helping each other, people from different belief systems, colors, and social statuses. And so many other conflict groups too numerous to list on this blog, that I would love to have in the anthology.
